KTM Adventure 390 – K&N KT-1217 High-Flow Air Filter

[First Impressions]

If you frequently ride on dirt roads, you’ll probably need to clean it every 1000 ~ 1500 km.

Pros:

  • Noticeably quicker throttle response
  • Eco-friendly (maybe?)

Cons:

  • Cleaning process takes around 30 minutes — mostly waiting for the filter to dry
  • Not sure if it could cause long-term wear on the engine (?)

[Cleaning Process]

  1. Spray the cleaner on the intake side (the dirtier side), make sure it’s fully covered, then let it sit for 10 minutes.
  2. Rinse with running water from the opposite side to flush out the dirt, then let it air-dry completely.
  3. Apply filter oil evenly on the intake side of the filter element, and let it sit for 20 minutes.
  4. Reinstall the filter on the bike.

[Thoughts]

If you like that snappy throttle response and need to ride every day, it might be worth getting a second filter to swap in and out.

Personally, I have a separate commuter bike and don’t ride the KTM Adventure 390 daily, so I don’t mind spending the extra time on maintenance.
